This passed week I had the pleasure of photographing a rare treat. A home and property that was built in 1834. I’m a history geek so when I saw the house for the first time I was pretty excited to be chosen to shoot it. The home is listed on National Registry of Historic Properties. It has 10-11 ft ceilings, original heart of pine floors. 5 Wood burning fireplaces, even the original front door. I couldn’t tell you when it was restored but they did an excellent job of keeping the original feel of the place. I was alone on this historic property for several hours during the shoot, numerous times I felt as if I had been swept back in time.
Venturing about the grounds I came across vintage barns, chicken coop, and a smokehouse. I remember thinking “This is like a museum”. The most striking feature for me was the trees, Black Walnut, Pecan, Pomegranate, and not one but two of the largest trees I have ever seen. Theses oaks were a minimum of 50″ in diameter at the base. The massive lower limbs were as big as the trunks of the trees around them. Who knows how old they are and who and what they have seen.
All finished up and pulling out I couldn’t help think if the new owners of this slice of America would think it was as special I do.
